I picked up the book after watching the movie by the great richard linklater. Because a scanner darkly is a story that changes throughout it 200 odd pages. Dick's own experiences, a scanner darkly tells the darkly comedic, caustic, but deeply tragic tale of drug use in the modern world. My youngest brother has waxed lyrical on a number of occasions about the novel though and as he shares similar. Its quite dizzying at times reading this and following the focus of the book, the investigation and the shifting paranoia of the drug addled characters within.

However, for fans of linklater and/or dick, this is no doubt a must see, and you should mark july 7th on your calendar. I must say the movie stays pretty faithful to its source and the book does not disappoint.
